Thinking about egg freezing? Let's talk.

Posted on May 20, 2026by RSC Staff

Join us for an open, judgment-free evening at The Studio (SouthBound) in Charlotte's South End — wine, light bites, and an honest conversation with Dr. Matrika Johnson about what egg freezing actually is, and what it isn't.

If you've ever paused — at a friend's wedding, on a long drive home, in the middle of a Tuesday — and wondered whether egg freezing might be something to consider, you're far from alone. The questions are usually quiet, personal, and rarely the kind you want to type into a search bar at 11 p.m.

That's exactly why we're hosting this evening.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, our team at Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas is gathering at The Studio (SouthBound) in Charlotte's South End for a relaxed, unhurried conversation about egg freezing. No clipboards. No pressure. Just a glass of wine, a quiet room of people who are curious about the same things you are, and a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist ready to answer the questions that don't always make it into a 15-minute appointment.

Why this conversation, why now

Egg freezing — clinically, oocyte cryopreservation — has moved a long way from where it was a decade ago. It's no longer a niche option whispered about between specialists; it's a part of how many people are thinking about timing, partnership, careers, gender-affirming care, and family-building on their own terms.

And yet, much of what people read about it online is either pitched too aggressively or buried under acronyms. The decision to freeze eggs — or not to — is rarely made on the basis of clinical detail alone. It involves time, money, relationships, hopes, and a lot of personal context.

This evening is designed to give you space for all of that. Bring your questions. Bring a friend, a partner, or come solo. Listen for an hour, ask one question, ask twenty. The format is yours.

What we'll cover

  1. Arrive · Wine & light bites. Settle in, and connect with others who are exploring similar questions.

  2. Egg freezing, honestly. Dr. Matrika Johnson walks through what egg freezing involves, what it can and cannot do, who it tends to suit, and how to think about timing — in plain language.

  3. Open Q&A. Ask anything. Anonymous question cards available if you'd rather not raise your hand.

  4. Connect & close. Stay as long as you'd like. Our team will be available for one-on-one conversations.

Questions you might be holding

You don't need to bring polished questions. But if you're wondering where to start, these are some of the things people often want to talk through:

  • What does the process actually look like, day by day?
  • How is the right time decided, and what does age have to do with it?
  • What are the realistic considerations around cost, financing, and insurance?
  • What questions should I be asking my own clinician?
  • What if I'm freezing eggs as part of gender-affirming care, or while single, or during a transition?
  • What if I freeze eggs and never use them?

None of these questions have a single right answer. They have your answer — and the goal of the evening is to give you enough clarity to find it.

Who this evening is for

This event is open to anyone curious about egg freezing — individuals weighing the decision for themselves, couples thinking about timing, friends and family supporting someone they love, and anyone exploring fertility preservation as part of their broader life or healthcare planning. We welcome guests of every relationship structure, family configuration, gender identity, and stage of the journey. There is no required level of prior knowledge; bring whatever you have.

Can't make it on May 27?

If the date doesn't work, the conversation doesn't have to wait. Our team is happy to talk one-on-one — about egg freezing, about timing, or about whatever question is sitting on the back burner. A consultation can be a no-strings way to ask a few questions and get personalized guidance from a clinician who knows the field. Schedule a consultation, or read our overview of egg freezing at your own pace.

Whatever you decide — to come, to wait, to skip the conversation entirely — we hope you feel a little less alone in the questions. That's the only outcome we're really hoping for on May 27.
